Stories from Vulnerable Communities: Humanity & Inclusion's Efforts in Ugandan Refugee Settlements

Infomercial Communications and Media Agency (ICM-Agency) had the privilege of visually documenting the remarkable work of Humanity & Inclusion through the INCHARGE project, led by Medical Teams International, in the Kyaka II and Kyangwali refugee settlements in western Uganda. This initiative has been instrumental in supporting persons with disabilities in these communities, and we were hired to bring these transformative stories to life through effective visual communication—photography and videography.

We meticulously planned the schedule, held preliminary meetings, scripted, filmed, and edited the content. Both the videos and photos were deemed fit for purpose upon delivery. As a company committed to humanity, working with this vulnerable yet resilient community was a transformative experience. Hearing their traumatic stories and witnessing their overcoming spirit with support from partners like Humanity & Inclusion, Medical Teams International, and the Ugandan government was profoundly impactful.

Kyaka II, located in Kyegegwa district, shelters over 128,000 refugees, including about 20,367 persons with disabilities. Kyangwali, in Kikuube district, hosts over 135,000 refugees, with 5 in every 10 households sheltering a person with a disability. Humanity & Inclusion provides essential support in both settlements through physical and functional rehabilitation, including physiotherapy and assistive devices. They also offer mental health and psychosocial support services, capacity building for local organizations, and raise awareness about disability inclusion.

“On behalf of ICM-Agency, I extend our gratitude to Humanity & Inclusion and its partners for the opportunity to document their remarkable success stories. Their combined efforts have significantly impacted and enhanced the lives of many and promoting a more inclusive environment”

In Kyangwali alone, Humanity & Inclusion’s inclusive support has reached over 2,300 individuals of all ages. These efforts are crucial in fostering resilience and inclusivity within these vulnerable communities. Our documentation captured the extensive assistive support benefiting girls, boys, women, men, and the elderly from both refugee and host populations.

“On behalf of ICM-Agency, I extend our gratitude to Humanity & Inclusion and its partners for the opportunity to document their remarkable success stories. Their combined efforts have significantly impacted and enhanced the lives of many and promoting a more inclusive environment” Says Nelson Kukundakwe, Agency team leader.
